Campaign Manager - Campaign Manager (Silverlight)

Adding Campaign Inclusion and Exclusion Segments to an Audience

Inclusion and Exclusion segments allow you to add filters and suppressions to specify the audience for the campaign. You create Campaign Inclusion and Exclusion segments in the campaign itself and they apply to that campaign only.

Procedure

  1. In the open campaign, click the Audience tab.
  2. Click the icon to add a segment to the Inclusion Segments panel or the Exclusion Segments panel. There are two options for adding a segment:

    • Segment activates the workspace area to the right of the Inclusion Segments and Exclusion Segments panels, allowing you to create a new campaign segment by dragging and dropping columns from the Data Explorer
    • Segment from Template launches the Document Explorer, from here select an existing campaign segment that will be copied to form the basis of the audience segment. The link with the original segment is broken and any further changes will not impact the audience
  3. To edit the segment name, click the icon in the field above the workspace.
  4. You can add multiple criteria to each segment using standard the joining operators: AND, OR, EXCLUDE (for more information on joining operators, see: Operators). For example:
    • Age=30 AND Gender=F will return records for customers who are 30 and female
    • Age=30 OR Gender=F will return records for all customers who are 30, along with all females of any age

You can uncheck segments that you wish to temporarily ignore.

  1. To calculate counts for either your Inclusion Segments or your Exclusion Segments only, click the run button at the bottom of either the Inclusion Segments panel or the Exclusion Segments panel.
  2. To calculate the Total Audience count, click the run button at the bottom of the Segments panel.

A note on combining multiple Inclusion and Exclusion segments

Campaign segments in either the Inclusion Segments panel or the Exclusion Segments panel are combined using the OR operator.

So, if you are using Program Exclusions and Campaign Exclusions in the same campaign, the joining logic is as follows: the Program Exclusion is joined with the Campaign Exclusions with the OR operator. For example: Program_Exclusion OR Campaign_Exclusion1 OR Campaign_Exclusion2. For more information see: Program Campaign Audience.

However, if you are using Program Inclusions and Campaign Inclusions in the same campaign, the joining logic is as follows: the Program Inclusion is joined with the Campaign Inclusions with the AND operator. For example: Program_Inclusion AND (Campaign_Inclusion1 OR Campaign_Inclusion2). For more information see: Program Campaign Audience.

The joining logic for calculating your total audience, combining Inclusions and Exclusions is: Total_Inclusions EXCLUDE Total_Exclusions.
